HOW often do you forget your loyalty card at the checkout?
It could mean losing out on cheaper supermarket prices as well as an annual bonus of more than £50. Here are the best schemes and how to make the most of them.
TESCO CLUBCARD: A must for Tesco shoppers. Collect one point for every £1 spent in store and online and one for every £2 spent on fuel. One point is worth 1p in Tesco. Or trade them in for three times the value with Tesco’s reward partners, such as Hungry Horse pub or Cineworld. Clubcard holders also get special discounts on products in store.
WHAT YOU GET: Spend £100 a week at Tesco all year, get 5,200 points, or £52 in Tesco vouchers.
NECTAR: Get one point per £1 spent at Sainsbury’s in store and online (excluding some products like tobacco and gift cards) and a point for every litre of fuel bought. One point is worth 0.5p. Worth getting as other big businesses such as eBay and Argos are also on the scheme.
WHAT YOU GET: Spend £100 a week at Sainsbury’s all year, get 5,200 points, or £26 to spend with the retailer.
BOOTS ADVANTAGE CARD: Very generous scheme, awarding four points for every £1 spent, and each is worth 1p. Over-60s and parents get double points when buying certain products.
WHAT YOU GET: Spend £20 a month at Boots all year, get an extra £9.60 to spend there.
SUPERDRUG HEALTH AND BEAUTYCARD: Get one point for every £1 spent, which amounts to a penny to spend at Superdrug.
WHAT YOU GET: Spend £20 a month at Superdrug all year, get £2.40 back.
NIL POINTS: Not all retailers offer points for shopping, but instead reward loyal shoppers with discounts, perks and freebies. With myWaitrose you get a free newspaper when you spend more than £10, or Iceland’s Bonus Card is a savings scheme which gives you £1 back for every £20 you save.
BE APPY: Use loyalty schemes and apps for extra points. There can be bonuses for buying certain products or downloading the app. Most apps have a digital copy of your card in case you forget it.
